instruction based art
An idea can only be a work of art if it is pursued into something because anyone can think of anything that could be an idea but not everyone is motivated to actually make it something out of it and the annoying thing about art is the disbelief that people have where they think you have to have all the materials and products to do something but the reality is you have to just think about what you have and make the most of it. Good art is not always skillful ll and put a lot of effort into, the simplest thing can make good art, for example putting stickers over peoples faces in photos is a new creative way of art that a lot of people find interesting and engaging. You don't have to make work of art to be an artist, everyone is an artist but you just have to pursue it to realize it. Artist might ask people to do their work for them because it makes the artist think harder in ways where they have to find a way of being more creative and trying to make the better more unique and eye catching than it already is. Personally for me the thing that makes instruction work interesting is the fact that you have to make the most of what you have and I think that tests your creativeness, another thing I find interesting about it is you get to test yourself and you find out what people find interesting in photos, because if someone tells you an instruction they more likely to find it difficult and interesting so you also find out your strengths and weaknesses. No a photographer doesn't have to press the shutter because they may have a concept where it requires them to do something for the photo, so as long as it's their concept or idea then they are still the photographer.
Four different types of instructed photos
This project started by a conversation between Christuan Boltanki and Betrand Lavier and Hans Ulrich Obrist in a cafe in Paris in 1993. The Do It project is a type of art that is based around instructions and commands which is now displayed at a famous and well known art gallery called Manchester Art Gallery, the Do It exhibitions purposes are for people to have opportunities at learning and recreating this type of work and to have fun. I would describe the Do It project
Personally, When I'm given instructions I find it easier with what I'm looking for because it encourages me and I know to do because normally when I have to take photos of anything I find myself just wondering around looking for something that stands out to me but when I look for things I'm instructed to, It makes me realize that even the smallest things can make a good photograph and you don't have to make a big fuss out of a photo. To be honest for my first photography session in a very long time I felt like I was as creative as I could've been but i did take a long time to settle and find the photograph and the creative flow that I used to have in year 11, I still think it will take me a little longer to make the most of my creativeness and to step outside of the box with ideas. The main thing that kind of annoyed me was that I felt a little restricted to what I could photograph which did have me a little lost because I feel like with instruction based photography there is more of a higher standard of what you can photograph and how you photograph it so for example when I was looking for something broken I didn't wanna just get something rubbish like a chipped wall and that's probably why I found myself lost mid-way through the task. Overall I took 18 photos and I feel a bit up and down on them because some of the photos I feel like it they could've been done better if I was more creative but I suppose some days you are more creative and some days you just can't think. Looking at some of the photos I feel like they went quite well and when looking at them I think most of them I'm actually quite happy with them and the ones that stand out to me, In a few weeks I want all of them to stand out and to be happy with. When I first looked at these photos I didn't really think they were anything special but I think I was just overthink it and setting my standards to like professional work but when looking at them now I think they are quite creative however I still know that I can definitely do better.
In todays lesson I had to take twenty photos of the backs of things, underneath things and uncharacteristic views. I found this task really enjoyable and I just found myself snapping away and not overthinking it and I was just spotting things I could photograph for this task and I just went for it. I chose this task because it just stood out to me and when I think of underneath and the back of things I just think of trying out different angles and getting the best version out of a photo. Looking at these photos I am actually happy with them and the way and I feel like I tried out different angles and I just got on with it straight away with no messing around.

Erwin Wurm is a visual based artist who likes to place objects and materials and around people to hide their identity. For example me may place a suitcase over someones body or even places pens in your eye and staples in your mouth. One thing that really interests me about Wurm is that at when he started doing his art he couldn't afford any materials so he would use the things he had in his already such as buckets and cans and this displays that you can do art with anything but you just have to be creative and put effort into it, I also think this is quite motivational because it shows it doesn’t matter about who you are or your financial status. I also like these photos because they are just random and peculiar, like putting a chair on someone's eye doesn't involve much effort but it makes people think what an earth is going on and personally I think that type of effect is a good reaction because it isn't just basic art where people look at it and think "oh thats nice", it is something where you are a bit confused at first then after you realize how artistic and unique it is.

For this piece of homework we were given an envelope which had random instructions to do for a photo from people in our class, for my envelope I had to take photos of plants and flowers, at first I thought it would have been an interesting task but while taking these photos I felt like I had no good ideas of what to do and I don't like how these photos came out because when I look at these photos nothing really stands out out me, personally I would rather done a task like this in school because I feel like I would have been in the right place to do it and school gives a better mindset of photography because I feel more focused with a camera and it's just easier.

For this photo shoot we had to recreate photos similar to Erin Wurm, in Wurm's photos he tries to hide the people's identities of who he is taking the photo of by doing things such as putting suitcases over people and putting a chair over someone face, the objects he uses are very random, however I think it makes the photo better because it makes you realise literally anything can be a piece of art if you don't think about what you're doing. I really enjoyed todays lesson because I just enjoyed putting random things on people and coming up with weird ideas to hide their identity and a school is a good place to do it because there are loads of random objects to use that you wouldn't find anywhere else. I am happy with how the photos came out and would love to do this activity again.

Photography game |
In todays lesson we got to have another go at recreating similar photos to Erin Wurm, for this photo shoot me and Jet went to an art room downstairs where there was loads of random things to use to recreate the photos. I'm happy with how these photos came out because it was different to the last photoshoot because we stayed in one room and use loads of different things and I feel like the things I used were a lot more creative then last one.

For this homework task I decided to make the game snap, the idea pooped into my head when I was playing snap with my little cousin and I thought it would be a good game to make photographs because it is a good and understandable game from any age range. I created this by going around the canteen taking photos of people and printing them out in a suitable size to fit in the box I have, after I printed them out I cut them all out and wrote the instructions down to put in the box then to finally finish it off I laminated each card and and I wrote the instructions on a word document and printed it out and laminated it.
