Postcards from home
Aicha Fall
Aisha Fall is a photographer who likes to display the links between culture and identity by photographing personal traditions she would do as part of her culture which is African. In my opinion I feel like photographing your culture must be very eye opening what you and your background is actually like, I also feel like you would feel a lot more motivated doing this because it is something you cherish and you would try your hardest to get the best quality photos because you would like everyone to see the best version of your culture.

Delfine Carmona
Delfine Carmona is a photographer who was born in Argentina but currently works in Berlin. Carmona had a background in theatre and as a professional photographer, so she decided to dedicate her career to visual arts, she does this by creating photos with objects, shadows and all different shapes. Personally I really like how the photos are presented and set up, this is because normally if a person is in a photo they are the main focus of attention, however Carmona somehow makes the object and the shadows the focus, I think she does this by the way she places her body in the photo, for example in the first photo one of her hands are pointing at the plant and the shadow is also surrounded by the light which draws attention to it.

Larry Sultan
Sultan was an American photographer who grew up in San Fernando in California, this is where most of his inspiration came from for his projects. Sultan used his mother and farther as his main subject in his photos because he liked exploring photography as a role in family mythologies. Personally I like the idea of photographing his parents because in a way in kind of shows their life and how love really is, there is also something I like about these photos and I think it's the fact they clearly look set up but at the same time they look random and I like this because it makes the project look like a professional photoshoot.

Photographs From Home
For my photographs from home I decided to take photos of anything I to be honest, I didn't really aim on the quality of the photos, instead I decided to take the photos how I wanted to because sometimes I don't think photography should all be about perfect lighting and perfect angles because then it sets some high standard and everyone will aim to do that and all photos will just look the same and too fancy and my room and my house isn't perfect so I just decided to photograph it how it is, like foe example the photos of my clothes hanger doesn't have the best angle or lighting but that's because if you are their in person it looks like a mess and I'd rather show that then go and try and make it perfect. I used the theme of Larry Sultan to do with home, however my family aren't photo people all the time so I didn't really include them and for a few of the phots I tried reflection and shadow and the idea comes from Delfine Carmona. I would say that although these are not the best "quality" photos I like the photoshoot because all the photos just represent home and how it is.
Frank Frances
The short film we watched relates to the theme of home because Frances's work because when he was talking about why he does his work and what is inspired from, Frances then talks about how the food and material made to look like food is all due the memories he has of his Nan cooking in the kitchen, this relates to home because it reminds him of childhood and it is something heart-warming that brings him a safe place and a safe place is home no matter what or where it is. This project includes culture because the food his nan makes is a very traditional meal for black people in America and this even small things like meals play an important part in culture because it shows your background and how you brought up. If I were to do a series like this I would also relate it to my culture and how I grew up because I feel like you would just know to put everything in place and I also feel like if you are photographing something that represents you you are more likely to try harder and enjoy the photoshoot. I would plan it out my going places that represent my childhood, for example I would photograph a pub because it's a very usual place for me and my Dad to go and see family, other places would be my nan's house, café, Millwall stadium my dad's house.

Nial McDiarmid
The things about Nial's work i find interesting is i want to know what inspires him and what does he look for when taking a photo, because all the photos he has are all diverse type of people in different settings and every photo has a different vibe to it. The concept of the photos are to show different people, however the one things i don't like about some of the photos like the breakfast ones are that they are clearly set up by the way everything looks so perfect and nothing looks natural, like how normally a table is messy.
During the holidays we were told to take photos that associate with home. The photos I took relate to home in some way, for example all of the photos of the streets are from Lewisham where I love, Millwall stadium because that's been a big part of my childhood and other the things that are in the other photos all mean something to me. These photos just naturally happened, I didn't go out planning to photograph things for this project, certain things just caught my eye and so I took the photo, also some of these photos I just took without even thinking of the project I just ended up looking back and thought that relates to home, this kind of made me realise that home is probably one of the biggest parts of photography and maybe the most popular considering most people take photos of their loved ones all the time to create memories. This project made me think about about photos of "home" and how important they are and to keep in your life. Overall I am happy with the photos I've taken because they represent home and think they look good.

Final evaluation
Postcards from home is a very odd project, by this I mean there are so many things that could mean home, everyone has different things that replicate home to them, for me I was very confused on what to photograph because there are many things that remind me of home and childhood such as going to my Dads house, going to Millwall with my cousins, seeing family at the pub and many other things. I think the hardest thing about this project is photographing things that mean something because all the things that remind me of home are things that I don't really do anymore now I'm older and have my own things to and I feel like photographing my actual house is kind of hard because everything is just so normal and I'm used to it so personally I didn't know what to photograph in my home that actually means something because nothing really stood out. All the photos I took from home are about home, where I'm from and things that mean something to me and I feel like the purpose of this is clear in my photos because no photos are just random, they're all to do with home and I don't know if people can tell that by looking at the photos because they don't know what home is to me so I'm not sure if it's clear but to me it is, however I want to retake some of these photos because I feel like I now have a better understanding of what I need to do and what I should photograph. My favorite artist in this project is Nial Mcdarmid,I like his work because I feel like although he does change certain things in his photos, he doesn't try so hard and perfect everything, he photographs stuff how it is and everything is natural and to me that it is what home is, everything messy how its meant to be.
